Why Richland is the #BestDecisionEver

To celebrate Community College Month this April, we are sharing stories from students, community leaders, faculty, and staff. All of these people believe attending community college is the #BestDecisionEver. Here is why:

Elliot Murphy

“I’m getting my GED and my Diesel Mechanics certification at the same time. All of my instructors CARE FOR THEIR STUDENTS. My GED instructors allow me to confide my anxieties and address barriers to my success. They have taken extra time to help me understand concepts that others understood faster. They helped me to excel through one-on-one tutoring in the Math Enrichment Center, and they helped me obtain community resources. I’m extremely grateful to the AE GED staff.”

Senator Doris Turner

“Richland Community College plays a vital role in shaping the future of our community by providing accessible, high-quality education and workforce training. Its impact can be seen in the success of its students and the strength of our local economy. By fostering a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, Richland ensures that individuals from all backgrounds have the opportunity to thrive. Supporting Richland means investing in opportunities that empower individuals, strengthen our workforce, and drive our region forward — making it one of the best decisions anyone can make for their education and career.”

Victoria “Tori” Lum

“I was waiting for my turn: for the right time, the right opportunity, for life to get easier or slow down. And then EnRich fell into my lap. The EnRich program served as the catalyst for the pursuit of my dreams, giving me the support and clarity I needed to take decisive steps towards achieving them.

“A quote from Essential Skills that has stuck with me is: ‘You are never too old to start over, but you are too old to keep doing what isn’t working.’ And it was time to change my situation. With the support of my family, friends, and the EnRich community, I am so proud to be paving the path of my success through the healthcare program.”
