Honors Program

Richland’s Honors Program provides highly motivated students with advanced coursework, academic and professional resources, honors-themed field trips, and opportunities for for-credit special research projects.


To be qualified, students must:

  • be high school graduates or have completed GEDs
  • have earned:

    • cumulative 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in high school or upon transferring
    • cumulative 4.375 on a 5.0 scale in high school or upon transferring
    • 12 credit hours at Richland with a cumulative 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  • have no need for developmental courses and be college-ready

Honors Student Offerings

  • opportunity to apply for Honors Program Scholarship & Scherer Transfer Scholarship
  • eligibility for Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college national honors society, and a one-time waiver of the admission fee (if eligible)
  • special honors-designated course sections with limited enrollment
  • honors designation coursework on transcripts
  • opportunities for one-on-one research projects with faculty after the first semester
  • regular honors-themed field trips and other co-curricular events
  • opportunities for leadership and service at Richland
