Decatur, IL – On Tuesday, August 1st, Richland Community College will empower nearly 140 Decatur Public Schools (DPS) students in the Prep Academy program through a day-long leadership conference.
The leadership conference will be led by Mia Jackson-Tyus – who serves as the Minority Mentor Protégé Program Coordinator for Richland’s EnRich program and as CEO of Power and Pumps. Through workshops centered around each Prep Academy student, Jackson-Tyus will be helping students build confidence/self-esteem, develop time management skills, bolster study habits, explore career pathways, and work on communication skills. The day will also include a DJ, photobooth, and plenty of giveaways.
The Prep Academy is a partnership between Richland Community College and Decatur Public Schools District #61. This free program offers selected DPS students the opportunity to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and an Associate’s degree when they graduate high school.
