Richland Community College Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy on the Board. The individual selected by the Board of Trustees will fill the vacancy until the 2023 election, and then commit to a re-election in 2029. The candidate must be a resident of the Richland Community College District.
The current Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate that is committed to the mission, vision, and core values of Richland Community College, be knowledgeable of and understand for the uniqueness of the community college system. Public support of Richland both on-campus as well as in the community is essential for this candidate.
The candidate should understand the difference in the role of the volunteer board member compared to the leadership/management role of the College President and Staff. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate a desire to work as an effective team leader.
The successful candidate will have the commitment and ability to prepare for and attend monthly Board meetings and special meetings, as well as various College functions. It is critical that a Trustee understands confidentiality of certain Board parameters and discussions have no evidence of conflict of interest and understand the Board operates under the Open Meetings Act, Robert’s Rules of Order, Policy Governance, and other related rules and statutes.
The candidate must demonstrate fiscal accountability and knowledge of fiscal concepts, budgeting processes, and strategic planning. The candidate should provide a knowledge/expertise of particular interest to Richland Community College, or have a connection in the District desirable to the Board including residence/work in a specific geographic area of the district not currently represented, or an underrepresented demographic.

Timeline for Process:
- Thursday November 18, 2021 – The Vacancy Notice will be sent to area by the close of business
- Thursday, December 23, 2021 @ noon – Deadline for Submissions of Interest from potential candidates
- Thursday, January 13, 2022 @ 1:00 p.m. – Board retreat meeting to interview, up to six, candidates and appointment to fill vacancy
