Richland Community College offers a wide range of competitive benefits. Benefit packages are customized according to position classification.
Benefit Summaries
Full-Time Faculty
Payroll
- Employees are paid on the 15th and the last day of every month or on the last working day preceding a holiday or weekend. The payroll period ends on the 15th and the last day of the month.
Holidays
- The college recognizes both federal & state holidays.
Health/Dental/Vision Insurance
- Richland Community College offers attractive and competitive health, dental and vision insurance plans. Employee options for health insurance include a Traditional Indemnity plan and a High Deductible/Health Savings Account plan. Plans include an employee-contribution component for individual coverage and for the family coverage options. The extent of coverage and carriers are determined by the Board of Trustees.
Life Insurance
- Life insurance equal to twice the employee’s annual salary, to a maximum benefit of $350,000, is provided. The benefit is subject to some eligibility requirements and other parameters of the carrier’s policy. The premiums cost of Life Insurance is paid by the College.
Additional Life Insurance
- Additional life insurance is available for purchase by the employee for themselves, their spouse, and children.
Long-Term Disability Insurance
- LTD Insurance is provided for all full-time employees by Richland Community College. Benefits will be in effect 90 calendar days after the disability of the employee and remain in effect until the employee is released to return to work or receives a retirement annuity, whichever occurs first. Benefits will be paid at 66.67% of the employee’s annual salary.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance of an amount up to twice the employee’s annual salary, to a maximum benefit of $350,000, is provided. The benefit is subject to some eligibility requirements and the parameters of the carrier’s policy. The premiums cost of Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance is paid by the College.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- This program provides free, confidential, professional counseling to help employees and their family members resolve personal problems which may affect their health, personal well-being, or job performance. Employees and their immediate family members may receive up to six (6) sessions of problem assessment, consultation, and counseling at no cost to them.
Retirement
- All employees participate in the State Universities Retirement System and are governed by the rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Trustees of the State University Retirement System. Employees contribute 8% of their annual salary; employer contribution is dependent upon the plan chosen by the employee. More information can be found at: www.surs.com.
Retirees Insurance
- All full-time employees will contribute .85% of their gross salary towards this benefit that is provided through the State Universities Retirement System. The college will match this amount.
Sick Leave
- Each full-time teaching faculty member on a nine (9) month contract shall be granted fourteen (14) days of sick leave at the beginning of each academic year. Four (4) days (32 hours) can be utilized for personal use in lieu of sick use. Faculty members on a nine (9) month contract who teach in the summer semester will be entitled to two (2) additional sick leave days, one of which may be used as a personal day. Please refer to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement for more details. Sick leave days may be accumulated but will not be reimbursed at termination or retirement.
Bereavement Leave
- A faculty member will be granted up to five (5) day bereavement leave for the death in the family of an employee. Family is defined as parent, sister, brother, spouse, child, parent-in-law, or anyone regularly residing with an employee. One (1) day bereavement leave will be allowed for the death of a grandparent, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, uncle, aunt, grandchild, son-in-law or daughter-in-law, niece or nephew. When circumstances require additional time, the leave may be extended up to a maximum of an additional five (5) days with administrative approval. (Circumstances which would qualify for additional time are: distance to be traveled to funeral, necessity to be involved in funeral arrangements, and/or related arrangements.)
Credit Classes College Tuition
- Richland Community College tuition will be waived for credit classes for all full-time employees and their immediate family defined as the employee’s spouse, party to a civil union, and the employee’s unmarried children (26 years of age and under).
- Some exclusions apply.
Non-credit Classes College Tuition
- Tuition for Richland Community College non-credit classes for full-time employees will be waived if all of the following conditions are met:
- The course must be exclusively sponsored by Richland Community College.
- Enrollment of paid students in the course must be sufficient to cover all costs.
- Enrollment must not exceed maximum class size.
- The employee will be required to pay for textbooks, handouts, or supplies associated with the courses which are not included in the course’s tuition.
- Some exclusions apply.
Fitness Center
- Fees associated with the use of the College’s Fitness Center will be waived for all full-time employees. The waiver does not extend to a full-time employee’s immediate family members.

Vacation
- Full-time administrative and professional/technical staff will receive twenty (20) days of vacation per year. Employees must use vacation time in four (4) hour increments. Employees in these classifications may accumulate up to (60) days. Vacation leave accumulations will be determined as of June 30 of each fiscal year.
Sick Leave
- Nine (9) sick leave days per fiscal year will be granted to each twelve-month, full-time employee. Sick leave days may be accumulated but will not be reimbursed at termination or retirement. Sick leave may be used only for personal immediate family illnesses and personal disability. The employee may be required to provide a doctor’s statement to his or her supervisor if the personal or immediate family illness last over two (2) days in order to receive sick leave pay and also to be able to return to work.
Paid leave time (PTLA)
- Each full-time employee will be granted five (5) PTLA days per calendar year.
- PTLA does not accumulate. Up to 24 unused PTLA leave day will be added to sick leave time each January 1.
- Paid leave under this Act can be used for any purpose.
Bereavement Leave
- Each employee will be granted up to a five (5) day bereavement leave for the death of a member of the immediate family as defined: parent or stepparent, parent-in-law, sibling, spouse, party to a civil union, any child, son- or daughter-in-law, or someone regularly residing as a member of the household. Each employee will be granted up to a three (3) day bereavement leave for the death of a member’s related brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent, and grandchild. Each employee will be granted one (1) day bereavement leave for the death of a member’s related aunt or uncle, first cousin, nephew or niece.

Vacation
- Non-exempt staff will receive ten (10) days’ vacation for the first year, increasing by one (1) day each year of employment up to a maximum of twenty (20) days. Employees in this classification may accumulate up to forty (40) vacation days during the first ten (10) consecutive years of service. After ten (10) consecutive years of service, classified staff may accumulate up to sixty (60) days. Vacation leave accumulations will be determined as of June 30 of each fiscal year.

- Nine (9) sick leave days per calendar year will be granted to each twelve-month, full-time employee. Sick leave days may be accumulated but will not be reimbursed at termination or retirement. Three (3) days/Twenty-four (24) hours of paid leave time will be added to sick leave time January 1 of the following year. If an employee starts after January 1, a prorated amount of paid leave will be awarded.

Part-Time Non-Exempt Staff
Payroll
- Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule.
Holidays
- The college recognizes both federal & state holidays.
- Paid for holiday only if normally scheduled to work on the day the holiday falls on. Then you are paid for hours you would have worked on that day.
Paid Leave Time (PTLA)
- All part-time staff (non- faculty) will receive a prorated amount of 26 hours of benefit time off during a 12-month calendar year. PTLA will be front loaded on January 1. Paid leave under this Act can be used for any purpose. Employees will receive their hourly rate of pay when using the benefit time, which does not include commissions or gratuities. A prorated amount of Paid Leave will be granted to part time employees hired after January 1.
- Unused benefit time will not carry over to the following calendar year. Unused benefit time will not be paid out upon termination.

The courses for which the waiver is sought must have sufficient enrollments to run without the additional students enrolled as a result of this policy. Further, the additional enrollment shall not over-enroll the courses.
