Richland Holds Winter Orientations for Free Adult Education Programs

Decatur, IL – Richland Community College’s Adult Education Program will be holding winter orientations for its free GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Orientations will be held the following days:

GED/High School Diploma:

· January 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W115)

· January 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W115)

· January 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W126)

· January 10, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W115)

· January 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W115)

· January 10, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. | Richland Community College Campus (Room W115)

ESL (English as a Second Language):

· Monday, January 8, 2024 from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. (120 N. Franklin Street/Decatur Public Library)

· Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. (120 N. Franklin Street/Decatur Public Library)

· Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (Richland Community College, Room W165)

The GED classes meet 3-4 days a week over an 8-week session. These courses help students prepare for the GED test’s 4 subjects: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. Interested students must be 16 years or older and not enrolled in school.

The ESL courses help students improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills for academic or employment purposes. Classes for the next session will begin Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Orientations are required for all new students. During orientation, students will learn more about the program and will take an assessment to place them in the appropriate class.
